With the economic downturn, Californiaʼs budget crisis and the recent stimulus plan, money has been on the mind of most Americans. Most of us have had an increase in financial pressures lately. But as difficult as economic woes can be, there are incredible spiritual opportunities that come with the pain.

Here are several good things God wants to increase in us when money is tight:

Dependence on Him.

Trustworthiness with what we have.

Unity among believers as we share and help each other.

Direction as we are forced to reevaluate priorities.

Faith as God demonstrates His power to provide.

Regardless of whether the current economic condition in our nation is temporary or long-term, or even whether or not the stimulus plan will help, God has big lessons to teach His people through the storm.

Number one on my list is that we should trust God instead of government (again, whatʼs that saying on our money…?).

Times of difficulty have been used by God in the past to bring people to revival. My prayer is that this time will be no different.

And speaking of revival, I hope we will all take the opportunity that Friend Day provides for us to invite a friend to come to Petaluma Christian Church with us on April 5 — and then again on Easter, the following Sunday. Weʼve got a great church to share.

May God grant us courage and increased faith as we share how our faith in Him affects the way we experience security today. And may we all be strengthened with
confidence in the faithfulness of God, who works all things for the good of
those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

— Loving you in the Lord,
Pastor Bill Linton
